Get it on time Successes

The Get it on time campaign has been off and running since late 2010, and we've accomplished a lot in a short time.

In addition to developing a number of valuable resources for people living with Parkinson's and Health Care Professionals alike we have spoken to over 50 Long Term Care Facilities, Retirement Residences, and Support Groups.

Our Get it on time booth has been on display at a number of conferences, including the Ontario Retirement Community Association/Ontario Long Term Care Association trade show, and the 2011 Movement Disorder Congress in Toronto - we're doing everything we can to make this message public and share our mantra that people living with Parkinson's need their medication on time-every time.

Support for GIOT

"I would like to sincerely Thank-you for coming to our Home to present this information to us.  As you know, I am very excited to start the ground work to get this program off the ground at Hillsdale Estates.  I believe that this will be an exciting best practice for our Home in support of our Parkinson's Residents.I have asked our Medical Director to meet with me in order to discuss this program, and have advised that we will be working behind the scenes on providing the tools and resources to make this program a success. At this point in time, I have requested that each nursing unit provide me with a list of all of the Residents on their respective units that have a diagnosis of Parkinson's.  I have also requested that they provide me with a list of what Parkinson's medications each Resident is taking, the dosage, and the medication administration times.  As we know, the medication times are a very important part of working through this process."

" [My wife] had a routine colonoscopy the Friday before the meeting, and we made sure that the “Get it on Time” letter and meds card were part of the registration process. The admitting nurse almost pounced on the letter and read it very carefully. She then made sure that the procedure was timed around her meds schedule. It really worked for this nurse! We encourage others to use the letter and card every time there is a possibility that a procedure of visit has the potential of interfering with the PWP’s med schedule."

"I just received a call from a carepartner whose husband was in hospital. Last year it was a nightmare for them as they had nothing but trouble getting his meds... she said this year is a total other story, and a good one! Everything is fine - he's getting his meds on time with no 'attitude' from any of the nurses. Kudos to you for this program... GET IT ON TIME!!!"

We received a self response survey indicating the value of our Get it on time letter: "Q. Tell us about your experience getting your Parkinson's medication when you needed it during your stay. A. I provided a copy of the "Get it on time" letter and detailed medication schedule as part of the pre-operation meeting. There was a very positive response..."

On our Get it on time pill timers: "I absolutely love my new Get It on time pill timer. The Tabtime Super 8, is the best thing since sliced bread. I feel so much better when I stay on track and it has become a family awareness process as they now notice the light on or the beeping when I don't… and are quick to let me know:  “BILL, you pills are beeping!” It is great and super value!"
